When we focus too much on the world and its shiny things… we are in essence making idols and worshiping them, instead of God.
It should be noted that it saddens God that as easy as HE made it to gain salvation for our souls.. we still turn our heads away and refuse! When we were in sin (before we accepted Jesus) God was still making a way for us to have salvation… as it says in 2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
God only wants our obedience to His love for us. To put away our idols, sin not, and follow Him. It’s not a daunting task by any means, but we make it that way. We complicate the gospel to the point that NOONE wants to hear it. We add stipulations to the gospel like the Galatians did by adding tradition to the relationship…or rather RELIGION to the RELATIONSHIP.
It is quite simple. If we acknowledge the magnitude of what Christ did on that cross…we should be head over heals, unabashedly in love with our LORD! We should WANT to take His life and make it ours…we should WANT to die to ourselves and sin no more!! But do we?? NO! We make excuses! We say, “Oh, I’ll have to stop drinking, I can’t cuss anymore…no more playing cards….” and the many other pathetic things that RELIGIOUS people add to the RELATIONSHIP GOSPEL OF GRACE of JESUS CHRIST!!
They should be ashamed!!!
So, soften your hearts. Listen to the voice of God. Pull back from your life in the world and focus all you have on Him!! 🙂
