Do they know you by your love?

The pic you see at the beginning of this blog post is a door that separates our living room from the dining room.  Around the holidays, it sports Christmas cards from friends and loved ones.  As we took down the decorations, my 19 year old daughter felt that this space was kinda bare!  So she went to work on this project that took her all of a couple of days.

This from my offspring who, also struggles with depression, introvertedness (if that’s a word lol), and a myriad of other struggles most of us have.

Here’s the thing though: she is anti-social, doesn’t like hugs, saying “I love you” first, and on the surface, she appears to be callous and unfeeling.  For whatever reason, this is who my daughter is, and behavior that we have grown to accept.  We have always challenged her, since she is a Christian, to bear more fruit.  She doesn’t put herself out there, volunteer for anything….serve.

But, she is a young woman I respect and love because of her uncanny ability to have a sense of humor where it is hard to have one, she doesn’t worry about what is going on or fret over life’s decisions.  She is an outside of the box thinker, very much like Jesus wants us to be.  The ways of the world don’t bother her, and she doesn’t think mainstream society.  I am only mentioning my daughter and this thing she created, because it reminds me DAILY that people are watching me.  The “seeds” of the fruit of the spirit are a constant reminder in my face every day as I sit to do Bible study, think, or blog.

We always say that if we are Christ Followers, we should be bearing fruit! Jesus talks extensively about it, and so does Paul. One of his most famous letters is in Galatians 5:19-23

“Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”

The meticulous effort of my daughter, putting all the seeds of the fruit of the spirit is, in of itself a fruit.  A beautiful, thoughtful, loving FRUIT.  Put there to remind us of the lives we MUST BE living as Christ Followers!

Are you loving the “unlovable” today? Are you teaching the “unteachable”? Are you serving as Christ served?  Are you patient, loving, kind, joyful, peaceful, GOOD, Faithful, gentle, and are you operating under the self control of the Holy Spirit?

Then, GOOD! ~ Peace Mike

Can YOU see JESUS in the mirror??

As in a mirrorI was woke up with this verse one day about 2 weeks ago… and I wondered why.

Then during prayer time before youth group, I read it. “1 John 2”
It basically talks about living in the LIGHT… and having hatred we show that we DON’T live in the light..and not loving the world and the things that are in it..

So I think, how am I living MY life?? Am I worried about what we are doing next, but could care less if someone is dying to go to hell? Are you so wrapped up in our own desires and selfish deeds that we don’t even acknowledge God, let alone your neighbor??!!

Waitaminit Mike!! Do you realize that my neighbor drinks all the time and gets loud, you know my friend isn’t living the Christian life even though she says she’s a Christian? Don’t you realize that it’s hard living here and being a Christian? Mike! The place where I work, they treat me like crap! It’s not right!
Put your OWN excuse in the blank…..
Let’s look at what the Bible says in Philippians 2:14-15
“Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe”
I find the hardest time living with that one… I mean, look at all the people out there, that are out to get me!! Work, driving down the street, family! UGH!!

Colossians 3:23-24
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

1 Peter 2:12 says, “Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.”

The Bible doesn’t make it a coincidence that certain formula’s work in the life of a Christian.
If you smile and you’re not happy, you WILL be happy!
If you do something nice for someone it makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside!
If you pray fervently and with faith…your heart and soul feel PEACE..JOY! (Because that is what gives THE FATHER the warm and fuzzies about us!!)
If you never complain and just do things the way Jesus would do them, you don’t feel depressed, or sad.
If you show others the love of Jesus, the reciprocation is phenomenal!!

I can’t say that I am perfect. I suffer from depression, but I make the best out of every bad situation.
I can’t say I have complete control over my anger, but God who does a good work in me does!
I get frustrated, angry, annoyed, sad, depressed…..
But when I read God’s word..meditate on it, pray fervently, treat others with kindness and love others..the ANGER, FRUSTRATION, DEPRESSION AND SADNESS DIE!! Through the blood of Jesus and the faith that HIS STRIPES have healed me and in JESUS… these things can not survive!
Galatians 5:13-25 says:

13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.
16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever[c] you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
US “Christians” go around, all pious and say, “Hey, I did this, did that!”, “Yoo-hoo, look at me!”
Yet, we beat our wives and kids Monday thru Saturday and in church we are, oh so HOLY! In our workplaces, they can’t tell whether we’re Christian or not because our mouths sound just like the others that work there! We have become a watered down, “I believe Jesus died for me” generation and think that’s all there is…. But we don’t live our LIVES for HIM… We still worry about our own stuff and what we’re doing, but slowly, ever so slowly, we become like the world!! And NOONE can even tell the difference between a Christian and a non-believer…
So very sad….

My 16 year old daughter wrote this, which sums up quite a bit:
“Have you heard the song, “Be Somebody” BY TFK (Thousand Foot Krutch)? Here are some lyrics: “….When I could only see the floor, you made my window a door. So when they say they don’t believe I hope that they see you in me.” This pretty much means to see Jesus inside of you.

Titus 2:7 says this, “you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind”

If you do good works, peoples will see Jesus inside of you. Most of us, including myself need more work on this.

Also, if you judge people, Jesus won’t be seen inside of you. People will think, “Oh, it’s just another ‘Christian’ judging people” and that’s not good.

When people see Jesus in you, they see a person always working hard and always nice to people; maybe even inviting people to church, or youth group.

1Peter 2:12 says this, “Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when He judges the world” I think that speaks for itself, pretty much.

Darlene at youth group, last night, was speaking about “what’s in a name?” well, what IS in a name? when people see you, or hear your name, something comes to mind, like, “it’s the girl with the nice hair, right?”; “that’s the dude who’s always talking to people! He seems nice”; or “”I remember you! You’re the one who always wore that red hat!”

What you want to be known for is how much you love God. Set an example, because people are watching.” Very poignant coming from a 16 year old!!!

Do YOU see Jesus in the mirror?  Or do you still see the shell of a person you once were and keep going back to??

If Jesus came back today and the trumpet sounds…. Are you going to be one of the ones raptured up with him in the air? Or will you be left behind?
